Bio/Research

Dr. Arnaert’s research interests lie in the area of using new developments in telehealth technologies to provide whole-person care. She is interested in investigating the use of different information and communication technologies to bridge geographic distance and improve healthcare delivery for the elderly, for people living at home with chronic and life-threatening illness, and for persons having undergone surgery. Dr. Arnaert examines the feasibility of integrating a tele-health program in the current healthcare system. This includes the development of a combination of interventions targeted at the patient, the family, healthcare providers, and the healthcare organization. The goal of the program is to provide access to quality care, and to improve patients’ and families’ quality of life. An important part of this program of research is exploring how an interpersonal relationship can be developed using a video-conferencing approach. Her research program builds on her dissertation work, wherein she developed and evaluated a community-based tele-homecare program providing nursing care though the video-telephone to homebound elderly, who suffered from chronic illnesses.

In addition to her appointment as Associate Professor at the Ingram School of Nursing, Dr. Arnaert is also an Associate Member of the Department of Oncology, and a Faculty Member of the McGill Programs in Whole-Person Care. She is also an Associate Member of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Community Studies at St. Mary's Hospital Centre and a Nurse Researcher at the Jewish Rehabilitaion Hospital. Dr. Arnaert is also a Chercheur Régulier, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation Greater Montreal. She is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
