Bio/Research

Cathy A. Levey, Ph.D. is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology at UMass Lowell. Dr. Levey is a Licensed Psychologist, and worked for over two decades with the Connecticut Department of Corrections, where she managed a multidisciplinary staff servicing several mental health units at a complex of male prisons in Northern Connecticut. She also maintained a small private psychotherapy practice. Dr. Levey has extensive teaching experience as a full-time Assistant Professor in Psychology and Criminal justice at colleges in New York and Connecticut. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. from the Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, an M.A. from the City University of New York-Queens College and also did post-graduate work at Smith College in Northampton, MA. She is particularly interested in mental health issues in the Criminal Justice system, especially Corrections. Dr. Levey has done research in the area of self-handicapping behavior.
