Bio/Research

My research endeavours include various approaches to assessing antibiotic utilization as well as prevention of nosocomial infections. Some current projects are 1)I am studying the role of antimicrobial therapy in the prevention of surgical wound infection. We are conducting a prospective epidemiologic study to evaluate if antibiotic utilization is as a useful indicator of quality of care. We are studying the value of feeding back antibiotic utilization information to physicians as a continuous quality improvement method to decrease the number of nosocomial infections. 2) I am conducting large community and national studies of antibiotic use in clinical practice and assessing interventions to reduce antibiotic misuse. 3) Conducting studies into incidence of nosocomial infections in acute, rehabilitation and chronic care hospital settings.4) Developing patient educational materials on use of antibiotics and other patient educational strategies.
