Bio/Research

Dr. Gerhard Multhaup is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University after serving as Chair of Biochemistry at the Freie Universitat of Berlin (FUB). He holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Molecular Pharmacology.

His research aims to understand the molecular, cellular and systemic mechanisms of degenerative nervous system disorders, with the ultimate goal of preventing and treating these diseases as well as other acute and chronic neurological and psychiatric disorders. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles in prominent journals, such as Science, Nature, The EMBO Journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Neuroscience, and he has lectured and spoken at numerous conferences in Canada, the United States, Australia, Iceland and other European countries.
