Bio/Research

Dr. Jacques Bradwejn was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in 2007. Prior to this appointment, he was Director of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa and chief psychiatrist at the Royal Ottawa Hospital since January 1998. He was also head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Ottawa Hospital since January 1999. Prior to these positions, he was associate professor of psychiatry at McGill University and professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Bradwejn obtained his doctorate in medicine from the University of Sherbrooke and completed his residency in psychiatry at McGill University. He obtained fellowships to specialize in psychopharmacology at McGill University and in neuropsychopharmacology at the University of Montreal. He also holds a Certificate of Professional Development from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the circle of Wharton graduates.

Dr. Bradwejn is active as a researcher in psychiatry and mental health. Her work focuses on anxiety disorders. He was the first to report that the administration of cholecystokinin tetrapeptide (CCK 4) induces panic attacks in patients with panic disorder. His research on this neuropeptide has earned him an international reputation. He has recently expanded his research focused on the integration of biological and psychological approaches in the treatment of anxiety disorders and the use of alternative medicine.
