Bio/Research

Kristin Yarris is an academic expert in global health, global mental health and transnational migration, especially in the Americas. At the University of Oregon, she is an assistant professor of international studies, the director of the Center for Global Health. She is also affiliated with the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies and the Center for the Study of Women in Society. Her research has focused on transnational families and intergenerational caregiving in Nicaragua, and she has an ongoing ethnographic project examining transit migration through Mexico en route to the U.S. Another research area focuses on psychiatry, mental illness, and mental health care in Mexico. Kristin is able to speak on issues related to migration, health and illness, and the social and cultural determinants of health and mental health.
