Bio/Research

Dr. Lukas G. Swan obtained his B.Sc. in mechanical engineering (2004) at California Polytechnic State University and both his M.A.Sc. (2006) and Ph.D. (2010) in mechanical engineering at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. His research interests are sustainable and efficient electricity generation, storage, and conversion mechanisms, with the intention of displacing conventional fossil fuel use. Past efforts include 10 years of electric vehicle R&D as a consultant to the automotive sector, development of commercial wind energy generation projects in Nova Scotia (800 kW), and detailed building energy modeling of the Canadian residential sector.

He is presently an Assistant Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Dalhousie University. In that capacity he focuses his experimental and analytical research on advanced energy storage to reduce and alter building energy consumption so as to permit increased integration of renewable energy technologies at the macro and micro scale. Objectives of this research include the development of management methodologies and innovative implementation techniques to maximize energy storage efficiency and utilization.
