Bio/Research

Dr. Muhajarine is a social epidemiologist who studies the impact that children’s families and neighbourhoods have on their health and development. He partners with community and government leaders to conduct research, so that the knowledge these projects generate is useful for program planners and policymakers. For example, the “Smart Cities, Healthy Kids” study (smartcitieshealthykids.com) is investigating how urban planning and design can be used to encourage children to be more physically active, thus slowing the rise in childhood obesity.

He has won awards for the impact of his work, including the 2006 Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Knowledge Translation Award for impact at a local/regional level, and the 2009 Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation’s Achievement Award.'
