Bearman, a specialist in network analysis, co-designed the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health and used the data for research on such topics as adolescent sexual networks, networks of disease transmission, the long-term consequences of adolescent virginity pledges, and genetic influences on same-sex preference. His publications include the book Doormen: Fieldwork Encounters and Discoveries. Bearman’s diverse research covers additional areas, most recently, the structure of global trade networks and the structure of Italian politics.
