Bio/Research

Dr. Rachel Dodds has worked extensively in sustainable tourism development in both academia as well as with government and the private sector. She is passionate about trying to help others become more responsible and recently published a book with Dr. Richard Butler called Are We There Yet? Travelling more responsibly with your children. They also published one of the first academic books on overtourism.
Rachel’s research examines overtourism, responsible travel, consumer motivations for travel as well as tourism development and planning.

Dr. Dodds's research has focused globally but she also has a considerable effort in Canada including working with the Ministries of tourism and was appointed to the Federal Council for the Visitor Economy in 2019. Rachel also appeared in the recent documentary: The Last Tourist released in 2022.

Rachel received the award for Scholarly Research and Creativity Award in 2011, 2014 and 2018 and Dr. Dodds also Directed the Hospitality and Tourism Research Institute from 2014-2018.

Rachel is a member of a number of journal editorial boards and non profit organizations, runs the website https://sustainabletourism.net/ and has travelled to over 80 countries and six continents.
