Bio/Research

Professor Warburton has held funding as a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar, conducting research into the costs and benefits of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives at the Vancouver Island Health Authority (read her feature in UVic's Research 2002/03 publication). Dr. Warburton is interested in the use of research evidence to inform public policy and improve the delivery of health care and other government services. She is currently working half time at UVic, and half time as the Co-Director of Research and Evidence Development at the BC Ministry of Health Services, Pharmaceutical Services Division. Dr. Warburton joined the School as an Assistant Professor in 1999, having previously been a half-time Visiting Assistant Professor for the 1998/99 academic year. She is a health economist, and worked for the British Columbia provincial government from 1982 to 1997. Her government experience included two years at Treasury Board staff, and 13 years at the Ministry of Health, working in both policy and research positions. Professor Warburton is committed to helping prepare MPA students to become excellent civil servants and public sector managers.
