Bio/Research

I am a cautiously optimistic faculty member at Western who analyzes and questions the assumptions and premises upon which school systems in Ontario are based. My research explores the relative value of life and work experience versus academic learning. In a policy development context these two forms of learning are visible and invisible to the general student population and to the public. A critical look at the formal education system provides me with an opportunity to consider alternative curriculum designs for institutions and the people who inhabit them.

My role as a faculty member and mentor to aspiring education leaders is to challenge the mainstream policies and practices which govern and sustain the momentum enjoyed by government controlled institutions. I teach graduate courses in research methodology, curriculum development, and adult education.

In the preservice program I teach technical education methods and curriculum (E 30/31), as well as an introductory course (E65) in adult education.

My community service commitments include committee work at the Faculty, provincial accreditation work, and an annual summer Chautauqua in my home community.
