Bio/Research

Sean Cocco teaches Italian history and studies science and culture in the early modern period. He is the author of one book, titled Watching Vesuvius, that tells the story of a powerful seventeenth-century volcanic eruption. He strives every day to bring history alive in all its complexity, difference, and importance. Most of all, he hopes that his students will share his passion. Cocco earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, and was a Fulbright Fellow in Naples, Italy in 2001.
