Professor Cheng received his B.S. degree from Caltech in 1974 and his Ph.D. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT in 1978. He is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT and Director of the Sloan Automotive Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
