Bio/Research

Dr. DiCenso’s research interests focus predominantly on the introduction and evaluation of advanced practice nursing roles including clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) and acute care and primary care nurse practitioners (NPs). As a Nursing Chair, she leads a program of education and research to increase Canada’s capacity of nurse researchers who will conduct applied research related to advanced practice nurses (APNs) that serves the needs of managers and policy makers in the health sector. She is also Director of the Ontario Training Centre for Health Services and Policy Research. This Training Centre involves a consortium of 6 Ontario universities working together to provide graduate education for those interested in become health services researchers. The overall goals of the Training Centre are: to build a critical mass of skilled, independent health services researchers in Ontario, especially in northern Ontario, and to ensure that the health services research conducted by these individuals meets the needs of health services policy makers, planners, and managers. She is lead editor of a textbook: Evidence-Based Nursing: A Guide to Clinical Practice published by Elsevier. In 2008, she was a recipient of the Canadian Nurses Association's Centennial Award.
