Bio/Research

Alice Balter has an interest in health promotion and education, with a focus on child and adolescent health and well-being, parenting, sexuality, and mental health. Since working at the University of Guelph-Humber in addition to teaching in both Family and Community Social Services (FCSS) and Early Childhood Studies (ECS) programs, she has been a successful grant recipient three years in a row (2014-2016) to study (a) Early Childhood Educators' (ECEs) perceptions of the development of sexuality and gender in childhood (2014); (b) how teachers (K-12) maintain positive mental health (2015); and, (c) the outcomes of a Toronto Public Health professional development workshop, Raising Sexually Healthy Children for Early Child Care Providers.

Balter is currently a Ph.D student at the University of Toronto, in the Developmental Psychology and Education program at OISE, where she is engaged in exploring educators' emotional regulation and its impacts on children's social and emotional development.
