Dr. Joseph has a long-term interest in the interconnection of population dynamics (especially population aging) and economic and social restructuring in the rural sector. Current projects in Ontario and New Zealand focus on local food systems and farmers’ markets and on voluntarism in aging rural communities. Joseph also maintains an interest in the geography of health care, especially in mental health care policies and delivery systems. Current projects engage with the re-emergence of private residential care and with the re-use of former psychiatric hospitals in Canada, New Zealand and the U.K.
