Bio/Research

Amanda Cook is an academic expert in organic chemistry, materials science and surface chemistry. At the University of Oregon, she is an assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry and a member of the Materials Science Institute. The Cook lab is focused on the development of heterogeneous catalysts for use in organic transformations that are otherwise achieved through unsustainable or hazardous means. Using molecular control, the active site of the heterogeneous catalyst can be precisely synthesized, leading to a uniform surface. With these new catalysts, the Cook lab is exploring chemical reactions applicable to industrial needs, like hydrofunctionalization and hydrogenation reactions.
