Bio/Research

Dr. Animesh Dutta is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and University Research Leadership Chair at the University of Guelph, Canada, and Director of the Bio-Renewable Innovation Laboratory (BRIL). His research advances sustainable energy systems by converting biomass, agricultural residues, food waste, and post-consumer plastics into low-carbon fuels, renewable hydrogen, and advanced carbon materials.

Over the past two decades, Prof. Dutta has led pioneering waste-to-value research in biomass conversion, plastic upcycling, hydrothermal carbonization, catalytic steam and supercritical water gasification, and engineered biocarbon production. His group develops integrated biorefinery systems for clean-energy production, CO₂ capture, renewable hydrogen generation, energy storage, and PFAS remediation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, holds patents in reactor and process engineering, and is recognized among the top 2% of researchers worldwide based on Stanford University citation metrics. He frequently delivers keynote lectures on circular carbon systems, biomass conversion, and sustainable energy futures.
