Anita M. Weiss is an expert on Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Muslim world, political Islam, Muslim women’s rights, and international development. At the University of Oregon, she is a professor of international studies. Professor Weiss has published extensively on social development, gender issues, and political Islam in Pakistan. She has spent much of the past two years in Pakistan conducting interviews for her current book project, Countering Violent Extremism in Pakistan: Local Actions, Local Voices. She is a member of the editorial board of Globalizations as well as a number of journals from Pakistan. She served as a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Pakistan National Commission on the Status of Women, as treasurer and vice president of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies, and on the Executive Committee of the Religion and International Relations as well as the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDSS) sections of the International Studies Association.
