Bio/Research

Dr. Wilson's current research circulates around issues relating to constructions of gender and masculinity in the context of the middle class in late Victorian and Edwardian England. In particular, she is interested in the formation of middle-class heterosexual masculinity and the demise of this mode of masculinity in the latter part of the 19th-century. The focus of her work is the theatrical expression of gender and sexuality in plays written in the late 19th and early 20th-centuries, with attention to how such interests are manifest through performance. This is an area of research she moved into roughly ten years ago, but as she has done so, she has maintained an active interest in her earlier areas of research: contemporary Canadian and British women playwrights.
