Dr. Kindler’s interests include artistic and aesthetic development, social cognition of art, multiculturalism and cross-cultural research, early childhood and elementary art education, and museum education. She is an internationally published art educator and researcher who has delivered in recent years over one hundred presentations and workshops in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, including keynote addresses at major international conferences.
Dr. Kindler’s recent research has been concerned with development of attitudes and beliefs about art and acquisition of art related skills. This cross-cultural study, involving collaboration with French and Chinese researchers, has been supported by a grant from the Social Studies and Humanities Research Council. Her other work assisted through external grants includes cross-cultural investigations of artistic development and aesthetic judgement and research in the area of museum studies.
Dr. Kindler is a member of editorial boards and review panels of leading art education journals, such as Studies in Art Education, Visual Arts Research, and Journal of Art and Design Education. She served two terms as vice-president of the Canadian Society for Education through Art. She also recently spent three years in Hong Kong serving as Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Science and Technology at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
Dr. Kindler continues her creative work in the medium of photography. Her work has been exhibited in several juried exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia. In the fall of 2004, Dr. Kindler was appointed Associate Vice President Academic Programs.
