Bio/Research

After having been professor at both the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa, chair of the Department of Geography and then associate dean of research at the University of Ottawa, Antoni Lewkowicz has been named Dean of the Faculty of Arts. His roots at Canada’s University go back more than 30 years to when he undertook his graduate studies in physical geography. His research interests focus on landslides and other geomorphological hazards in areas with permafrost, the distribution of permafrost in mountainous parts of the Arctic and Subarctic and the impacts of climate change on the polar regions. Recognized with the Professor of the Year Award at the Faculty of Arts in 2006 for excellence in teaching, research and service, Dr. Lewkowicz is editor of the journal Permafrost and Periglacial Processes and vice-president of the International Permafrost Association.
