Dr. Bala Venkatesh is the founding Academic Director and head of the Toronto Metropolitan University Centre for Urban Energy (CUE). He is also a tenured Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering.
He specializes in Electric Power Systems with interests in Transmission and Distribution Systems, Renewables, Energy Storage and Smart Grids. He works with several companies such as Toronto Hydro, Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Alectra, Schneider Electric, etc.
He is an Editor of the IET Proceedings on Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
He heads the NSERC Energy Storage Technology Network, a federally funded program.
With a Ph.D. in Electric Power Systems Engineering from Anna University (India), Dr. Venkatesh is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, Canada. A Toronto Metropolitan University Professor since 2008, Dr. Venkatesh has also taught at the University of New Brunswick (2005-07), Multimedia University in Malaysia (2001-04), and Anna University (1994-2000).
He has supervised over 60 Masters and PhD theses. Dr. Venkatesh has extensive journal publications to his credit.
