Becki Ross arrived at UBC in 1995, and for the past 10 years, she has developed teaching and research interests in the areas of: qualitative/historical methods, the sociology and history of sexualities, feminist/gender/anti-racist theory, critical sport studies, and the sociology of “the family.” She teaches WMST 325: “Feminist Qualitative Methods of Research and Inquiry”, and WMST 326: “The Politics of Gender, Families, and Nation-Making,” as well as SOCI 369: “The Sociology of Sexualities”, SOCI 383: “Historical Methods”, and SOCI: “Qualitative Methods for Historical Sociology”. She is working on a book-length study of female burlesque and striptease in postwar Vancouver, 1945-1980, and another book of essays on queer culture in the 21st century entitled, Shaken & Stirred. In 2005, Becki was nominated by Women’s Studies and Anthropology/Sociology for a Killam Teaching Award. With Lisa Loutzenheiser, Becki is co-chair of Critical Studies in Sexuality (CSIS). She also serves on the steering committee for Canadian Studies and as a soliciting editor for the “Sexuality Studies” series at the University of British Columbia Press. Becki’s hobbies include mucking about at the cabin with her partner Tracy, curling, golfing, reading Canadian fiction, and yoga.
