Broadly, my research involves the application of social psychological theories to the domain of health and well-being. More specifically, my scholarship utilizes several social psychological theories to better understand the type of persuasive health messages that will be most effective during times of uncertainty (e.g., following a serious medical diagnosis). A second, complementary stream of research on which I am currently working applies motivational frameworks to understand the goal-directed motivations for health behaviors that may seem irrational (e.g., initiation of risky drug use).
This work has been applied to a variety of domains, including military personnel, organ donation, prescription drug use, and health communication.
