Bio/Research

I was born in Joliette (PQ), Canada, in 1961. I received the B.Ing. Degree in Engineering Physics and the M.Sc. Degree in Physics from the University of Montreal in 1983 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1990. From 1990 to 1999, I was with INRS, University of Quebec, where I held the positions of Assistant and then Associate Professor. In 1999, I joined McGill University, Montreal, as an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where I served as Associate Chairman of Graduate Studies from 2004 to 2007.

My research interests focus on the investigation of new computational algorithms for the digital processing of information bearing signals and overlap many sub-areas of statistical signal processing, including: detection and estimation, sensor array processing, adaptive filtering, multirate systems, and applications thereof to broadband voice and data communications. Over the years, I have supervised many graduate students in these areas and co-authored several papers, including key works on subspace tracking, speech enhancement, time delay estimation and spread sources localization. My research has been funded by the main government agencies in Canada and Quebec, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Fonds quebecois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT), and PROMPT-Quebec, as well as by major industrial sponsors, including Nortel Networks, InterDigital and Bell Canada. I regularly serve as a reviewer for scientific journals and granting agencies worldwide. I have been an Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and the EURASIP Journal on Applied Signal Processing and served on the Technical Committees of several international conferences in the fields of signal processing and communications. I currently serve as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Trans. on Signal Processing. I am a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and a Senior member of IEEE.
