The focus of my research program is to support and strengthen women who are experiencing challenges to their comfort, safety and well-being during pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Past research includes coping with severe nausea and vomiting and other perinatal discomforts; more recent projects include an exploration of health disparities within global settings. For example, I have been and continue to be involved in building research capacity in a variety of global settings, especially with respect to maternal health. Activities include mentoring international nurse/midwifery graduate students and post doctoral fellows and currently or in the recent past co-supervised graduate and post doctoral students in Ghana, Thailand, Brazil and the UK. The utility and acceptance of the WHO partograph in low income countries is evaluated in a current project.
