The basic research interest of Prof. Surgenor is on the development of intelligent (neuro-fuzzy) controllers for pneumatic servosystems. Exposure to industrially based automation problems led to an applied research interest in the area of intelligent algorithms for machine vision systems as applied to inspection in manufacturing processes. Research on intelligent algorithms has recently been expanded to include applications to control and power management issues in hybrid electric vehicle drivetrains. Prof. Surgenor is also active in the field of mechatronic system design education.
