Dr. Bruno Salena attended the University of Toronto graduating with a BA (1976) and MSW (1978). He completed his MD (1981) at McMaster University where he continued his postgraduatestudies in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and further postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He additionally completed an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship (1988) at the Cleveland Clinic under the mentorship of Dr. Michael V. Sivak Returning to McMaster University in 1988 he was appointed to the full-time faculty of Division of Gastroenterology, Faculty of Health Sciences and consultant staff at Hamilton Health Sciences. He is a past president of the Hamilton Health Sciences Medical Staff Association and the founding and past President of the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Salena has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He currently serves as an associate editor of the journals, Evidence Based Medicine and JAMA Journal Club. He is actively involved as a teacher in the undergraduate MD and postgraduate MD programmes at McMaster University. Dr. Salena is a clinical trials co-investigator in digestive diseases at McMaster University with clinical interests in interventional endoscopy, colorectal cancer screening, dyspepsia and inflammatory bowel disease.
