Bio/Research

My main educational and research interests are in the area of Paediatric Exercise Physiology. This is a fairly new sub-discipline of Exercise Physiology whose focus is on children and adolescents. Within this specialization I am interested in the effects of habitual physical activity, high intensity training, and sports competition on physical growth and physiological development, especially of the cardiovascular, neuromuscular and musculo-skeletal systems. I am also interested in the application of physical activity and exercise in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of various Paediatric diseases. I have also recently become interested in the area of ageing and the role of physical activity/exercise in musculo-skeletal health in this population.
