An artist equally at home in concert, opera and music theatre repertoire, Caroline Schiller has participated in the creation and performance of opera and concert works with companies that include The Banff Centre, The Tanglewood Music Center, The Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, The Dartington International Institute and The Indian River Festival. Professional highlights include performances with The Boston Symphony Chamber Orchestra, L'Orchestre symphonique de Montreal and appearances in the role of Christine in the original Toronto cast of Phantom of the Opera. She has worked with conductors and directors including, Marc David, Charles Dutoit, Joachim Herz, Oliver Knussen, Harold Prince, Brian Rintoul and Kelly Robinson and is former winner of the prestigious Young Singer of the Year Award in Llangollen, Wales and the Canadian National Music Festival in Voice.
As an active performer her recent work includes such varied performances as Musetta in La Boheme and the Canadian Premiere of John Harbison's Milosz Songs arranged for voice and piano. Upcoming releases include a recording of 18th-century cantatas with the Hungarian baroque ensemble, Capella Savaria conducted by Mary Trey-Smith.
Schiller's research interests include a focus on contemporary repertoire in particular the vocal works of Canadian composers. She is a frequent recitalist, adjudicator and presenter at conferences internationally and her doctoral thesis is an annotated bibliography entitled A Performer's Guide to Works for Soprano Voice by Canadian Women Composers.
