Bio/Research

Dr. Woo’s current research focus is on studying how to effectively support change and evolution of information systems from the business and organization perspective. Business change is becoming more frequent due to competition, deregulation and globalization. Rigid and inflexible information systems are obstacles to effective organization and business change. In order to develop flexible and adaptable information systems, Dr. Woo experiments with the effectiveness of incorporating and utilizing various contextual information in information systems architecture. Contextual information, in this case, includes commonly used concepts in intelligent and multi-agents systems such as goals, beliefs, and intentions; organization concepts such as organization structures, roles, and responsibilities; and business concepts such as mission, market, and regulations. The challenges are how to acquire, represent, and take advantage of this knowledge to effectively enable business change. The output of the research includes methodologies and computer-based tools for developing information systems.
