Professor Mavriplis graduated from McGill University’s Honours Mechanical Engineering program and continued her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Aeronautics and Applied Mathematics, where she earned the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees. After a postdoctoral appointment at Princeton University in the Program for Applied and Computational Mathematics, she began her tenure-track career at George Washington University, where she earned tenure.
She spent two years as a Program Manager in Applied and Computational Mathematics at the US National Science Foundation. As a Research Fellow in the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies at the University of Oklahoma, she worked with US NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory scientists to advance modeling techniques for Numerical Weather Prediction. She recently joined the University of Ottawa in the Department of Mechanical Engineering where she continues to pursue her interests in numerical methods and fluid dynamics.
