Bio/Research
Dr. Risdon is currently an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine with an associate appointment in the School of Rehabilitation Science. Dr. Risdon finished her MD at McMaster University in 1992 and her family medicine fellowship in 1995. Dr. Risdon is currently enrolled in a doctorate of management in organizational change at the Centre for Management and Complexity at the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
Dr. Risdon is active in undergraduate medical education, teaching and designing curriculum in behavioural medicine, doctor patient relationship and professionalism and is a member of the COMPASS curriculum planning and implementation committee.
In 2000, Dr. Risdon was named to Canada's first endowed chair in family medicine. The David Braley and Nancy Gordon endowed chair was created to foster educational, research and clinical innovations to support relationships in health care. Dr. Risdon's current work is focused on creating a competency based curriculum to teach interprofessional collaboration, self-awareness, ethics, social and community health, interpersonal skills and professionalism to medical students.
Dr. Risdon's clinical time is spent at the McMaster Family Practice where she is involved in patient care and the teaching and supervision of medical students and family medicine residents.
