Bio/Research

Christopher Dornan is currently the director of the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs and associate dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs, but he continues to teach and supervise students in the School of Journalism and Communication. This year he will be teaching the workshop that produces the School's web newsmagazine, Capital News Online.

He holds a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University, an M.A. in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Communication from McGill University. He taught for two years at Cornell University before joining the Carleton faculty in 1987.

He has been a reporter for the Edmonton Journal, an editorial writer and editor for the Ottawa Citizen, and a columnist for CBC national radio and the Globe and Mail. In 2006 he was Erasmus Mundus visiting scholar at the Danish School of Journalism and the University of Aarhus.

His work has appeared in venues as disparate as the Literary Review of Canada, Critical Studies in Communication, the research reports of the Royal Commission on Electoral Reform and Party Financing, Canadian Geographic, the Media Studies Journal, and the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

He is the co-editor (with Jon H. Pammett) of The Canadian Federal Election of 2008, along with three other volumes in this series.

He sits on the board of the Reader's Digest Canada Foundation.
