Dr. McMaster has twice been ranked as the best in Canada in national salary award competitions by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He was also ranked first in Nova Scotia in the Clinical Research Scholar category. Dr. McMaster is currently the holder of a Canada Research Chair in Biosignalling. He is a Professor of Pediatrics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University and is the Assistant Dean, Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies in the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. Dr. McMaster also serves as co-director of the Chemiinformatics Drug Discovery Laboratory at the IWK Health Centre.
For over ten years, Dr. McMaster has served on national and international peer review boards and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry (regarded as the best biochemistry journal in the world). Dr. McMaster holds three patents based on small molecule inhibitors of lipid metabolism, has authored over 50 peer reviewed publications in some of the best medical and scientific journals in the world, and has been an invited presenter at 40 international meetings and research institutions. He is also the founder of DeNovaMed, Inc., a Halifax based biotechnology company specializing in using computer aided drug design and synthesis for the development of a new class of antibiotics.
