I am a professor in Psychology and I am an applied developmental scientist. I study strategy development. I'm interested in strategy development in a variety of tasks, such as spelling and using the Web. You might think that spelling and using the Web are very different but good spellers and good Web browsers are good because of the cognitive strategies they use on the task. A strategy is some sort of plan. So children have to plan to sound out the sounds in a word to spell it and children and adults have to plan what keywords they will use when searching for something on the Web. How they make these plans and how well they enact them is what I find really interesting.
