Bio/Research

Daniel Coleman holds a Canada Research Chair in Diversity in Canadian Literary Cultures. He carries out research in Canadian Literature, the literatures of immigration and diaspora, critical race and gender studies, and the cultural and spiritual politics of reading. He has published Masculine Migrations: Reading the Postcolonial Male in a "New Canadian" Narrative (University of Toronto Press, 1998), The Scent of Eucalyptus: A Missionary Childhood in Ethiopia (Goose Lane Editions, 2003; winner of a Hamilton Literary Arts Prize for Non-Fiction, 2004), White Civility: The Literary Project of English Canada (University of Toronto Press, 2006; winner of the Raymond Kilbansky Prize in 2007), and In Bed With the Word: Reading, Spirituality, and Cultural Politics (University of Alberta Press, 2009). He has co-edited ReCalling Early Canada: Reading the Political in Literary and Cultural Production (University of Alberta Press, 2005) as well as five scholarly volumes on various issues including masculinities, postcoloniality, and race for journals such as Essays on Canadian Writing, Mattoid, Jouvert, Masculinities, and Textual Studies in Canada. His most recent course offerings have included Framing CanLit, White Civility, Writing Diaspora, Debating Canadian Multiculturalism, Critical Race Studies, Reading, Spirituality, and Cultural Politics, and Canadian Literature.
