Dr. Rainham's research program is currently focused on the application of theory and methods from geography and epidemiology to environment and health issues, and forms the basis for the work conducted in the Dalhousie Health Geomatics Laboratory.

Dr. Rainham also develops and integrates wearable global positioning systems with physiological and environmental sensors to improve environmental exposure assessment estimates and to develop objective health measures in studies of the environmental determinants of health.
