Bio/Research

Professor Selva's research focuses on applications of global optimization, knowledge engineering, and machine learning tools to systems engineering, with particular emphasis on the early phases of system design and architecture. His vision is to develop hybrid tools and methods that bring together the advantages of humans and computers by combining knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches.

In particular, Professor Selva is developing a system architecture facility that contains several knowledge-based systems and advanced machine learning algorithms devoted to system architecture of Satellite Systems. This facility has the potential to help humans identify more robust and cost-effective architectures for large space systems, combining nanosatellites, hosted payloads, and commercial services.
