Before joining the faculty at the University of Bridgeport in the fall of 2012, Dr. David Oberleitner received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology (Social), from Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan), and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology (minor: instrumental music - percussion) from the University of Toledo. He teaches a variety of courses in the major (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology of Personality, Psychology of Stigma, Cognitive Psychology), serves as faculty advisor to numerous psychology majors, and also serves as honors program faculty. His research interests fall broadly in Social Psychology, with specific research interests in the social-cognitive processes underlying social-exclusion (ostracism), discrimination and stigma, the interplay of social exclusion and social processes regarding health and pain, as well as recall fluency and stress. He also has research interests in teaching methodologies and individual differences related to teaching success.
