Bio/Research

Dr. David Terfera received his Ph.D. from Upstate Medical University in 2002. His research there focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways that regulate cell adhesion and cell migration associated with cancer cell metastasis, development, and wound repair. His research led to a better understanding of a novel growth factor-stimulated mitogenic signaling pathway. While still a graduate student, Dr. Terfera began instructing medical students in gross anatomy. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for teaching. Since then, he has instructed students at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a variety of medical and allied health programs. In 2006, Dr. Terfera joined the faculty of UBCNM where he teaches anatomy, embryology, and neuroscience. Since joining UB he has developed a greater appreciation for naturopathic medicine. This has led to the formation of a collaborative effort with colleagues at UBCN to investigate the role of botanical therapies on gut microbe populations.
