Bio/Research

David Turcotte, Sc.D., is Research Professor in the Department of Economics, Senior Program Manager at the Center for Family, Work, and Community, and Director of the Institute for Housing Sustainability. His research focuses on innovative approaches to developing more affordable and sustainable housing, workforce development issues within the clean energy industry, health and the build environment, and sustainable community economic development.

Dr. Turcotte is Principal Investigator for an $875,000 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Healthy Homes Demonstration Program grant and Co-Principal Investigator with researchers from UMass Amherst and UMass Boston on a National Science Foundation funded project, "Decision Models for Foreclosed Housing Acquisition and Redevelopment." He is also Co-Editor of the Merrimack Valley Housing Report, an electronic newsletter that focuses on regional housing issues.

His recent publications have examined local foreclosed housing acquisition and redevelopment efforts and a framework to guide sustainable housing development in the United States. Dr. Turcotte teaches courses on community conflict resolution and sustainable housing development and land use: policy and practice.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Community Economic Development and a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Dr. Turcotte is also Chairperson of the City of Lowell's Green Building Commission and the Massachusetts Asthma Action Partnership's Healthy Housing Committee. He also served as President of the Coalition for a Better Acre, a community development corporation and has more than 25 years of community development experience.
