Bio/Research

David E. Woodard AIA is a lecturer of Architectural Drawing and Design in the engineering department. He is the owner of DEW Architects, a Connecticut architectural firm since 1971. With the use of practical experience, Woodard's belief is to teach architectural communication used in building structures. Most importantly, the drawing and design courses (using basic drawing tools for hand-drawn problems) are to let the student see if architecture is of interest. Learning to draw by hand first gives one a greater understanding of what the computer produces for architectural projects.

Woodard has been with Trinity since 1970. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Texas A&M University, Bryan, Texas, in 1961, and his Masters from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

In addition to Architectural Drawing and Design courses, Professor Woodard offers an independent study of CAD, which is limited to two students per semester, as this is a one-one-one teaching process. He also supervises independent studies in advanced design, resulting in projects illustrated with full plans, elevations, perspectives and a three dimensional model.
