Deirdre Marie Cloonan is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Fones School of Dental Hygiene, University of Bridgeport. She received her dental hygiene degree from the University of New England, in Portland Maine. In 2014 Cloonan graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Master of Dental Hygiene Degree in Education at the University of Bridgeport. Professor Cloonan began her teaching career at the University in 2012 as a part-time clinical instructor in Second Year Clinic. Deirdre's experience of more than 8 years in dentistry includes dental assisting, clinical practice, public health, and dental hygiene education.
Professor Cloonan currently teaches Introduction to Periodontology, Periodontology and is a clinical instructor to both first and second year dental hygiene student interns. In addition to working as a full time Clinical Assistant Professor, Deirdre practices clinically in a private practice. Professional affiliations include membership of the American Dental Educators Association, American Dental Hygienists' Association where Miss Cloonan now serves as a 2015 Connecticut ADHA delegate; Connecticut Dental Hygienists' Association where she currently serves as the President-Elect, and the Hartford Dental Hygienists' Association.
