Dr. Gustafson has many years experience working and teaching in health care. She has worked as a college professor, a clinical educator, and an education consultant for a hospital corporation. These varied experiences were the impetus for her first book, Care and Consequences, which looks at the impact of health care reform on a diverse group of care providers and care recipients. Her next book, Unbecoming Mothers, examines the lives and wellbeing of women living apart from their children.
Dr. Gustafson holds a dual PhD from the University of Toronto in sociology and equity studies, and in women and gender studies, and a master's degree in adult education from Brock University. She is pleased to be involved in medical sociology at a time when the importance of this work is being increasingly recognized by funding bodies.
