Dr. Bienzle’s area of diagnostic expertise is blood cancer (hemolymphatic neoplasia). Her research program examines how horses respond to components in barn air that cause asthma, how asthma can be diagnosed early in the course of the disease, and how it can be better treated.

She oversees the OVC's Flow Cytometry Facility and the analysis of clinical samples through the Animal Health Laboratory. Her time is spent teaching in the veterinary and graduate curriculum, including diagnostic interpretations for the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC-HSC), and service at the institutional and professional organization level.
Bienzle has her DVM (Guelph), M.Sc. (Guelph) and PhD (McMaster); she is also a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and holds a University of Guelph Research Leadership Chair (2021-2024).
