Bio/Research

Associate Professor (Chamber Music), violist Douglas McNabney received a BMus degree in Musicology from the University of Toronto. A student of Gerald Stanick at U. W. O. where he received a MMus in performance, he also has a DMus. in Interpretation from the Université de Montreal. In masterclass, he has studied with William Primrose, Bruno Giuranna and Rainer Moog.

Douglas McNabney has a wide and varied performing experience as soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. During his tenure as Principal Viola of l'Orchestre symphonique de Quebec (1983 to 1986), he frequently appeared as soloist and recorded Berlioz's Harold in Italy for CBC Enterprises. Mr. McNabney has appeared as guest artist with leading chamber music groups and societies across Canada and U.S. A. including the Orford Quartet, the Allegri Quartet, the St. Lawrence Quartet, the Smithsonian Chamber Players, the Lafayette Quartet, Millennium, Amici, the Gryphon Trio, the Winnipeg Chamber Music Society, le Festival international de Lanaudiere, Music at Speedside, the Ottawa Chamber Music festival, Festival Canada, the Scotia Festival, Festival of the Sound, and many others. As member of the Galliard Ensemble, he toured and concertized extensively throughout Canada, Europe, and the United Stated, recording for, among others, BRT (Brussels), Radio Bremen, RTE (Dublin), Finnish Broadcasting, Sudwestdeutscher Rundfunk, Norwegian Radio, Radio Sweden and the CBC. Douglas McNabney was the Artistic Director of the Domaine Forget Music and Dance Academy from 2001-2004. He also pursues a busy schedule of appearances as soloist and guest artist in festivals and with chamber music societies and ensembles across Canada and Europe.
