Bio/Research

Dr. Elif Kongar is an Associate Professor at the University of Bridgeport. During her tenure in the Departments of Technology Management and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bridgeport (UB), she established research and graduate concentrations and coursework in several areas, including simulation and modeling, service management and engineering, and economic / environmental sustainability. She is also serving as the Director of the Technology Management Ph.D. program while leading the development of blended and distance learning curricula at the department.

Her main area of research is economically and environmentally sustainable waste recovery systems and operations. She has founded the Sustainable Energy and Environment Laboratory. While the laboratory is used to research alternative energy and best practices in environment sustainability, the laboratory serves as a model in green engineering, integrating state-of–the art practices of sustainable engineering. She supervises several M.S. and Ph.D. students who participate in the research conducted in the Laboratory. Her service as a Faculty fellow on the School of Engineering Industry Advisory Board (IAB) has provided an opportunity to integrate best industry practices and problem solving paradigms in the curriculum and research endeavors supported by the laboratory.

Dr. Kongar is the author of numerous journal and conference papers, and has presented her work at various national and international conferences. She is a member of the ASEE, SWE, Scientific Research Society, Sigma Xi, the Industrial Engineering Honor Society, Alpha Pi Mu, the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
